There have been a number of exciting initiatives happening in partnership with the Nepean, Rideau, and Osgoode Community Resource Centre to keep the community engaged and connected during COVID-19. The Community Development Framework project ran a virtual girl’s mental wellness program during May and June for rural youth. This program was designed to reduce isolation during the pandemic while teaching young girls about their mental health. The 10 participants met online weekly and reported that they were happy to have something in their schedule again and looked forward to the meetings. Another way in which community was fostered on an online platform was for Canada Day. The Osgoode Village Community Association hosted a virtual Canada Day for residents with prizes and local bands! Youth in the area have also been leading community building activities. The Youth Advisory Committee, in partnership with the Osgoode Youth Association, created suncatchers and distributed them at their local seniors’ residence.
