Prior to the pandemic, resident leaders Cat and Stephen assisted in offering “lunch and learns” for the residents of 725 Bernard. This included a monthly prepared lunch, along with a guest speaker who presented on a topic chosen by the residents. Due to COVID-19 and the cancellation of this activity, Cat and Stephen worked diligently to receive permission and the means to get back into the kitchen to continue to serve meals to their community. Cat and Stephen have since provided three meals to the residents of 725 Bernard, serving upwards of 20 people each time. They have independently created the meal plans (and posted them for residents to see), completed the shopping, July 15th Had meeting with Josh and Stephen. prepared the food, and delivered the meals to the resident’s doors! This is the only resident-led food initiative within the Ottawa Community Housing residences and has been an incredible success, with the likelihood of numbers increasing as other food donation programs come to an end. The residents are incredibly appreciative of the hard work Cat and Stephen are doing, and the resident leaders are happy to be back in the kitchen and back to helping take care of their community.
