Mechanicsville is a diverse community north of Hintonburg and includes subsidized housing, a family shelter, apartment buildings and rental housing (75% of Mechanicsville residents are renters) along with single-family homes. There has also been a recent influx of development, which has reduced affordable housing options in the community. 2,205 people live in Mechanicsville.

Working on providing local opportunities for residents to become involved in their communities through volunteering and engagement in decision-making.

Each neighbourhood has developed an action plan so that residents and service providers can keep track of how their organized activities are working for change. The activities and initiatives are sometimes organized by residents, sometimes by service providers and, very often, organized together.
